String Logic is not just about finding information, it's about finding information so quickly
that it allows you to compile your own database on any subject in literally an instant.
Please read each question carefully, this test is more about controlling results than getting a few sites to give you the answer. Good luck!
These questions may seem difficult or even impossible, but (believe it or not) after the course these questions will seem silly. These questions represent a fraction of the power of String Logic!
To see how you did, send your answers to; Test@StringLogic.net Include the Search Engine and query you used for each question.
I took the course and loved it. String Logic brings a whole new perspective to sourcing that
No one else teaches you.
It also brings results.

Question One:
A friend calls you and says they have bought a black and white dog. They want your help naming the dog. You run a quick search on your favorite standard (non-sequestered) search engine to see what other people have named their black and white dogs. Within 10 seconds your search is over and you have over 200 results, all names of black and white dogs. Every result has the name of a black and white dog and you didn't open a single URL, It must be clear in the sample text below EVERY result that you have the name of a dog that is black and white. The result is no good if you have to open the URL to be sure. If you have even one result that missed the target you'll fail this question.
Question Two:
You are looking for a pediatric specialist. To make this question easy, the location of the specialist is irrelevant. Use a standard search engine to run your query; your first try reveals many pediatric specialists. Every result the Search Engine returns contains the name of a pediatric specialist. All the names will appear in the sample text below each result without error. The result is no good if you have to open the URL to be sure.
Question Three:
Your friend Bob is writing a letter, there's a word he would like to use but he can't remember it. He can't remember how long the word is, how many syllables it has or even a single letter in the word, the word is just gone from his head. He tried a thesaurus to no avail, then the dictionary, but that was even more useless. He called everyone he knows, but no one can find the word for him. The word Bob is looking for is jeopardize. Using your favorite search engine, find the word jeopardize for Bob without using any other word or sentence that could mean the same thing and don't try anything Bob has already tried. Needless to say, you can't use the word jeopardize in your query.
Question Four:
The question is "How many teaspoons are in a cup?". Using your favorite Search Engine, create a query to get the answer. Every result that comes back must have the answer and the answers must appear in the sample text below each result, you are not allowed to open a site to get the answer or use a calculator that some engines have, it must appear in the sample text, and every result must have the answer. It should take no more than 10 seconds.
Question Five:
A friend calls and says they just got back from the doctor and have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. You are very sad to hear the news and want to understand what your friend will be going through. You read the symptoms of Parkinson's but you want information from a personal perspective. You want to read information written by people that actually have the disease. Using a standard query on the Search Engine of your choice, find articles or stories that have been written by people that HAVE Parkinson's disease. To pass this one, you'll need about three to four hundred results in your query and every result you get must contain something written by someone talking about their experiences having the disease, this is called "personal perspective". It should be apparent in the sample text below each result that you hit the target. If you have to open a site to see if it has what you asked for, then you did it wrong. This search should take about 10 seconds.
Question Six:
Your friend Bob saw a movie on TV, and a song from the movie got stuck in his head. He would buy the song on iTunes, but the problem is Bob can't remember the name of the song or the movie it was in. He can't remember the names of the actors that were in the movie, he can't even remember what decade it was filmed. Bob can however, remember one word from the song. The word from the song Bob can remember is "the". Bob is also able to hum the song and he knows where the word "the" goes as he hums it. Find the song for Bob only using the word "the" in your search query and one additional word that is not in the lyrics of Bob's song. As with all the test questions, you must produce the query you used and the search engine you ran it on. The musical you are looking for is "The Sound of Music" but you can't use that in your query, you must pretend you have never heard of it. Do not use a lyrics database, you must use a standard search engine like Yahoo or Google. To pass this question, the lyrics to the Sound of Music must appear in the first page of results. For an extra point, find the lyrics only using the word "THE" and NO other word in your query!
Bonus Question:
Some people hide Web-Pages on their sites, just to be silly most of the time. They will indicate that they have a hidden page expecting you to move your curser all over their site to find the hidden link. Your task is to find these hidden pages using a standard query from the search box of your favorite Engine. IE type a query that brings back ONLY hidden pages. This one could take you about 2 to 20 minutes to figure out. Without String Logic it could be problematic. Email your answers to; Answers@StringLogic.net
If you had no idea how to answer the questions on this test, but are excited about the prospect of being able to conduct this kind of "Direct result" searching, then you are a perfect candidate for the String Logic course!
